What do these two things have in common? It is our contribution to help our Perry County Black Jewel Coal Company miner’s. These miners were paid for their work on a Friday and by the following Tuesday their wages were taken back out of their accounts because there was no money from the company account to support the pay. This was almost three months ago. We recently found out that we had 25 miners from Perry County who were in this situation. The Perry County Ministerial Association and Community members will be hosting a dinner for these miners and their families tomorrow. First Presbyterian was asked to provide paper products for the families resource boxes and provide an Alfredo dish for the dinner. We have five pans ready to feed these families. Please keep these miners in your prayers and if you would like to make a monetary donation you can contact LKLP Community Action Agency. These men and women who worked for this company had no prior knowledge that the company was in such dire financial shape Thanks to everyone who helped cooked today. Thanks to everyone who brought paper products.

Black Jewel Miner Support Dinner will be August 19, 2019. We are providing toilet paper and paper towels for the support boxes. Please bring a pack of toilet paper and a roll of paper towels to church tomorrow August 18. Sit it on the back pew. We are also making fettuccine Alfredo after church for the dinner. We have supplies but a couple of extra hands will be appreciated.

The Perry County Ministerial Association And members within the community recently found out that 25 Perry County miners were displaced from their job with Black Jewel mining. We as a community are trying to do our part in serving those in need. Our church has been asked to help in three different ways. The first is by bringing donations to the church for the next two Sundays of packages of toilet paper and paper towels. These items will go into a gift box of basic needs that the families can use. The second way to help is providing fettuccine Alfredo for a community hosted dinner for the miners on August 19. Third, any monetary contributions will need to be send to LKLP as they are the local designee for assistance for the miners. We want to make sure we are serving our community well. Thanks for your help. For our or of town page viewers. Black jewel mining had mines in Wyoming, Kentucky and Virginia. The company deposited paychecks into the direct deposit accounts of their employees. There was no money to support the deposit and so the money was removed from the miners accounts. The company has declared bankruptcy protection but these families have not had an income in two months. The media had focused on Harlan County where one of the mines was located. We did not find out until last week we had families in our county affected.

Yesterday we served 64 meals at Second Chance Mission. The mission was closed but Amber had us a table and a tent to work from. We fed more children than we usually do. The mission does great work and we love helping them. Second Chance Mission will be having their Back to School Bash on Saturday. They are reorganizing and spring cleaning their place. They are closed this week for that purpose. They need high lighters and dry erase markers for their back packs they are filling with school supplies. Please bring any donations to the church on Thursday or Friday and place in the Quiet room. Thanks.

We ready to be a blessing today instead we were blessed as a friend of Second Chance Mission had a tent and table set up for us. He took our trash to the dumpster for us. He took the tent down and the table down and helped us find an electrical outlet. We were blessed so much by his service. That humble spirit humbled me and made me want to serve more. We stuffed that blessing box. If you get a chance put snacks in the blessing box. This helps the homeless have something to eat when there is no one serving food. Volunteer to serve lunch on Tuesday, Thursday, or a Saturday. You will be blessed I promise. Thanks First Presbyterian Kitchen Crew.

Thanks to the kitchen crew for your help on the successful Appalachian meal. Our new friends from Nebraska will be making this meal for their church when they do their mission trip wrap up meeting. We are thankful for their donation to the Christmas For All Seasons fund. Thanks for all you do each week. We fed some of our neighbors as well. We served about 35 tonight. They loved it. We are Christ’s place we are Christ’s church with it’s doors wide open.

Good time serving Second Chance Mission with our monthly outreach meal. We took some things for their food pantry. Second Chance is needing their food pantry stocked. They are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-2pm and Saturday 9 am-3pm. Please help stock this pantry for summer.

Thank you to all those who helped with the funeral and meal for the Bill Morton family. Thanks also to our neighbors Bowman Memorial UMC who helped with food, organizing and serving. We are so blessed to have compassionate friends. The family was grateful for this outpouring of love. We were blessed for many years with Betty’s and Bill’s presence and influence in our church. They are missed but reunited and we are grateful. Keep the Morton Family in your prayers at this time.

Preparing for Christmas. Music Ministry with the fabulous Janean Freeman. Come sing with us this advent season. It's going to be glorious

Thankful to God! Baptism of Kasen Reed Terry, by Rev. Mary Reed.

Panis Angelicus

A very special gift of music today during worship: Eva Dimitrieva's voice soared as she sang Panis Angelicus. Our hearts lifted up to God.

After our final hymn, we continued worship by walking across Broadway and joining our brothers and sisters at Consolidated Baptist. We all sang together "Lift Every Voice and Sing." Here's a clip of all of us together at Consolidated..
